Swimming here is free and easy, but to really experience Rottnest’s dazzling underwater realm, strap on a snorkel and some fins and peer into the deep blue sea. The waters here are teeming with more than 135 species of vibrant tropical fish and 20 species of coral.
‘Large’ snorkelling hire includes size 7–15 flippers, snorkel and a mask with an adjustable strap.
‘Small’ snorkelling hire includes size 1–7 flippers, snorkel and a mask with an adjustable strap.
It is recommended to pre-book snorkeling gear hire on Rottnest Island, especially during peak season. This will ensure that you have the necessary equipment available for your preferred time and date. However, if you are visiting during the off-season, it may be possible to rent snorkeling gear on the day of your visit without pre-booking.
There are no specific age restrictions for hiring snorkeling gear on Rottnest Island. However, children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult when snorkeling. It is also recommended that individuals have basic swimming skills before snorkeling.
There are several great snorkeling spots to visit on Rottnest Island. Some of the best ones include The Basin, Little Salmon Bay, Parker Point, and Parakeet Bay. These spots offer clear water and an abundance of marine life, including colorful fish, coral formations, and even the occasional sea turtle. It’s important to note that some of these spots may require a bit of a walk or swim to reach, so be sure to check the conditions and plan accordingly.
