Kingstown Barracks

The former army barracks at Kingstown features 17 dormitory rooms, ideal for school and other groups. Some rooms have private ablutions and wheelchair facilities. Communal ablution facilities are available. Hearty breakfasts, lunches and dinners are offered at reasonable prices in the dining hall.

Kingstown Barracks houses the Rottnest Island Environmental Education Centre, an education and accommodation venue for schools, community groups and the general public.

Rottnest Island Hostel

Rottnest Island Hostel has 54 beds (family rooms and dormitories), a fully equipped kitchen and a lounge with television, radio and 24-hour internet access. Communal ablution facilities are available.

Guests staying at the Rottnest Island Hostel are required to bring their own linen or hire linen prior to arrival or from the Visitor Centre.

Governor’s Circle

Governor’s Circle comprises nine self contained cottages, each with between 9 and 18 beds. Discounts are available to groups who have participated in an Environmental Awareness Course or who have over 18 people. One cottage has facilities that will accommodate wheelchairs. The cottages come in sleeping configurations of 9 beds, 13 beds, 15 beds and 18 beds.

Payments can be received at the RIA Accommodation Counter at the Rottnest Island Authority Office at the E-Shed, Victoria Quay, Fremantle on weekdays between 9:00 am and 4:30 pm.

Situated 1.80km from Thomson Bay Settlement, the Rottnest Island Hostel occupies part of the Kingstown Barracks. Kingstown Barracks was designed in 1936 and was built as part of a Commonwealth decision to increase coastal defences.

: is from 12.00pm at the Rottnest Visitors centre.

Shuttle Bus

: A free shuttle bus operates between Kingstown and the main bus stop. Timetables are available from the Hostel lounge and the Visitors Centre.

Shopping Facilities

: There are NO shops at Kingstown. The main settlement shop supplies everything needed for an enjoyable holiday.

Luggage

: All luggage for delivery to the Hostel must be correctly labeled with the appropriate Kingstown label. These labels can be collected from the ferry departure point before leaving. Fishing rods, surfboards, dive equipment and craypots will not be delivered. Whilst all care is given, no liability is accepted for loss or damage to luggage.

Check Out

: is at 10:00 am. If guests wish to extend your stay you need to pay by 10:00 am on the day we have you registered to check out. Room inspections will be conducted after 10:00am daily. Departure luggage needs to be correctly labeled and placed in the pick up area by 9.00am on your day of departure.

Linen and Bedding Information

: All dorms include a pillow, pillowcase, and sheets. Towels and any additional bedding will need to be supplied by the guest. On departure, please strip all hire linen from the bed and leave on the floor when you are departing.

  • Lockers: Coin operated lockers are available at the Hostel and the Visitors Centre.
  • Kitchen: Includes fridges, microwave and stove. Crockery, cutlery and pans are also supplied.
  • Hostel Lounge: Includes information in the Island along with television and internet kiosk.
  • BBQ Area: Is located outside next to the kitchen with 2 large gas barbeques.
  • Bathrooms and Laundry: Washing and drying facilities are available opposite the Public Telephones. Showers and Toilets are located in the main building with the kitchen, dining and lounge room.
  • Internet Access: available in the Hostel Lounge or at the Visitor Centre.
  • **Quiet times are between 9pm and 9am.
