Accommodation Ballot

Why have a ballot?

Due to the high demand for accommodation on Rottnest Island during peak Western Australian school holidays, the Rottnest Island Authority runs a ballot system to allow all applicants an equal chance of reserving accommodation.

Ballots are run for the Western Australian Summer and Easter (first term) school holidays. While the second term (July) and third term (September) holidays are not subject to a ballot, accommodation is available only for set periods.

The ballot is a totally automated random computer selection. The allocation is based on where your application is situated in the randomised queue and the remaining availability that matches your preferences.

Households are only permitted to lodge one ballot application per household. People with mobility impairment will need to lodge their ballot application and provide an accompanying letter advising that special facilities are required.
