For a hassle free stay on Rottnest, here are some further hints and tips about booking accommodation and staying on the Island.

The Island Visitor Centre (located at the end of the Jetty in Thomson Bay) is the check in point for the Rottnest Island Authority cottages, villas, units, bungalows, cabins and camping and Kingstown Barracks, Youth Hostel and Governor's Circle. Booking advice will be sent by the RIA to visitors two weeks prior to their stay, with the details needed for check in. Guests of the Hotel Rottnest Hotel and the Rottnest Lodge should proceed directly to these establishments for check in.

Most accommodation in Thomson bay is within walking distance of the main jetty. If you are staying in Geordie, Longreach and Fays bays or Kingstown Barracks, a Transfer Bus runs between the Main Bus Stop and Geordie bay shops, and Kingstown Barracks. You can also take the Bayseeker bus for free from Geordie Bay to the Main Bus Stop. If you clearly label your luggage before putting it onto the ferry it will be delivered to your accommodation. Please note that there are no taxis or private vehicles on the island.

Rottnest Island Authority luggage policy

Luggage in excess of this amount of two bags per bed may incur an excess charge and delay delivery times. Items such as surfboards, surf-skis, fishing rods, bicycles, cray-pots and golf bags are not able to be delivered and must be transported to accommodation by their owners. Dive cylinders and gas cylinders will not be delivered due to dangerous good handling requirements.

Medication and fragile items should be carried in hand luggage.

Rottnest Island Authority check in policy

Check in time is 2:00pm. Personal identification of the tenant holder will be required at check in.

Check out time is 9:00am. Please remember to drop off your key at the Visitor Centre after vacating your unit. Please close windows and lock doors on departure.
